I have played golf for more than 30 years. I love it because it is a beautiful chance to connect mind and body through focused attention to a single goal: getting the ball in the hole. For me, playing golf is very much a metaphor for the process of life itself.

Recently, I gained some insight through the process of improving my game. For years I had been struggling to hit longer drives. The lengths of the shots were not so bad, about 230 yards on average, but I knew this was far short of the 300 or more yards that professionals hit. I kept wondering, “How do they do that? Why can’t I do that?” I played for so many years without hitting that mark that it started to seem impossible.

Then someone suggested a slight change in my swing. They suggested that I position my hips so that the weight of the hips would go into the swing, rather than relying on mere arm strength. I tried this, and I could feel the energy of my entire body transferring into the ball. Suddenly, the length of my drive jumped to 310 yards.

If you set a vision for your life, you are bound to come up against situations that seem impossible to overcome. Like me and my drive length, it may seem like you experience the same thing over and over again without making any headway. The key is to look very carefully at the habits you have and ask if they are really channeling energy in the right direction. In the case of my golf swing, only a very tiny adjustment made a huge difference, and the same might be true for your life. Previously I had mistakenly thought that I needed to hit the ball harder for it to go farther. Likewise, success in life does not always mean using more strength. Even very slight shifts in habit and attention can make all the difference.

As I watched, I was very aware of the effect the various parts of the show had on me and the rest of the audience.

Shows like this really have the ability to carry us away into a different world. The music, the color, the lights all played their parts, taking our brains for a ride through a variety of emotions and experiences.

I left the show pondering the importance of our entertainment choices. Broadway shows, movies, video games and the like all have so much power to move us and to mold us. People surrender themselves to a good song or a good story much more easily than a sermon or a lecture. I think this is because this sort of entertainment works with our brainwaves to produce happier, more contented people. The songwriters, actors, and set designers are all brainwave doctors without even knowing it!

This experience has inspired me to create a show, like the one I saw at Radio City Music Hall, that really works with the principles of Brain Wave Vibration. Imagine a show that takes full advantage of the effect music, light, and sound can have on the human brain. Imagine a show where the audience’s brains are part of the action, as they vibrate their bodies and synchronize their brainwaves for greater health, happiness, and peace.

Don’t you want to buy a ticket?

With the first day of school or the first practice of the season upon us, so too are the butterflies—the unwelcome and unsettling stomach nerves that make our children (and us) uneasy.

However, new starts don’t have to be so hard. You and your children don’t need to feel helpless. You just need to soften the flutters.

According to Ilchi Lee, originator of the Brain Education System Training (BEST) and author of Power Brain Kids, “Children may not be aware at first that the brain either consciously or unconsciously controls everything that they do and feel. The brain gives the orders, but it is the body that puts these orders into action.” And we can control this.

It is a good idea to teach children early what their body parts are and what they control or how they function. This will help your child know when something just isn’t right, and they will be better able to communicate this to you. So together you can figure out how to take action.

Like during those first few weeks of school when that belly just doesn’t feel right. Talk to your son or daughter to find out other symptoms—is it an illness or simply just nerves? Many children get a nervous stomach when they are stressed or worried. Try talking your child through any worries he or she may have.

If your child is still experiencing a nervous stomach, encourage him or her to try the following exercise, Pill Bug, excerpted from Lee’s Power Brain Kids.

• Sit on a soft mat, carpeting, or grass and hug your knees. Make your back round.

• Gently roll backward, from your tailbone to the top of your spine. Roll back again. Repeat 10 to 20 times.

Pill Bug is a great exercise for releasing tension from their stomach. It also encourages flexibility in the spine. And there’s nothing hard about it.
