Beyonce offers feminist inspiration in “Run The World”

Beyonce is releasing her new album called "4." Needless to say, it's her fourth album and the New York Times has already given it positive reviews. Beyonce the artist is nearing 30, and Dahn Yoga lovers may find it interesting that this popular singer has gone through quite the personal development.

Now, Beyonce is all about female empowerment. Her song "Run The World" asks the question: Who runs the world?

The answer is simple: Girls.

"It's hot up in here/ DJ don't be scared to run this, run this back/ I'm repping for the girls who taking over the world/ Have me raise a glass for the college grads."

Beyonce rallies not just college grads but girls of all ages, races, shapes and sizes. In the music video, it appears that Beyonce is the leader of a female army.

Beyonce provides inspiration for healthy living

When she teamed up with First Lady Michelle Obama, Beyonce decided to use song and music to help combat childhood obesity.

In the music video for the Move On campaign, the singer dances in a school cafeteria with kids who are eating their lunches. However, Beyonce urges them to get up and get moving. The students soon follow suit and they all participate in impressive choreographed dancing.

"I ain't worried doing me tonight, A little sweat aint never hurt nobody, Don't just stand there on the wall, Everybody just move your body, Move your body, Move your body," croons the singer.

Dahn Yoga lovers who are looking for new breathing exercises or ways to stay healthy can take a tip from such fitness campaigns as the ones now promoted on a national level. "Move your body" is but one song in many that people interested in exercise can dance to.

Shakira’s Waka Waka, This Time for Africa is a song of unity

First made famous during the last World Cup, along with the sound of vuvuzelas, Shakira's Waka Waka, This Time for Africa, is an extremely amusing and inspirational song. Dahn Yoga lovers can even try to perform some Dahn Yoga exercises to tunes such as this one.

The lyrics are all about rising and fulfilling one's potential. Belief in oneself is crucial especially if one is going through a hard time. The confidence that is being preached in such songs are more than just inspirational. They should be held onto and repeated to oneself when the going gets tough.

"People are raising/Their Expectations/Go on and feed them/This is your moment/No hesitations/Today's your day, I feel it, You paved the way/Believe it/ If you get down, Get up Oh oh…When you get down/Get up eh eh…"

When Shakira says, "When you get down, Get up," she may be talking about personal struggles, the continent of Africa, or even sports games like a soccer match. The idea is the same. Hang in there.

Eminem’s Lose Yourself inspires one to take hold of opportunities

Dahn yoga lovers are often looking for new ways to express and develop their love for life. Personal development is usually an important goal in this respect. If one is trying to find motivation in pursuing a new life path, certain music and songs can be great sources of inspiration.

In Eminem's Lose Yourself, the singer urges listeners to take advantage of each opportunity that comes his or her way. The song's refrain goes as follows:

"You better lose yourself in the music, the moment/You own it, you better never let it go/ You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow/This opportunity comes once in a lifetime…"

In his lyrics, Eminem may be specifically referencing "the music" as an experience that one should lose themselves into, but as the verse goes on, the inspirational words are broadly applied and can very well be interpreted to reference any experience that is a unique "once in a lifetime" event.

One can gleam from this song is that confidence is crucial in defining moments. "You own it" is a direct imperative for the listener to take hold of his or her own destiny, to step up to the plate if an opportunity presents itself, and to shape his or her life by living it to the fullest.

Eminem’s “Not Afraid” provides inspiration to those facing tough times

Dahn Yoga participants are often interested in inspiration through various forms, in addition to Dahn Yoga DVDs and exercises. Music and songs are a wonderful source of positive energy, as many singers have penned creative lyrics in order to inspire the masses.

Eminem's "Not Afraid" is an example of a narrator singing about his own experience of overcoming challenges. Some of the lyrics of the widely popular song are as follows:

"I'm not afraid to take a stand/Everybody come take my hand/We'll walk this road together, through the storm/Whatever weather, cold or warm/Just let you know that, you're not alone/Holla if you feel that you've been down the same road."

One of the key themes in this song is the idea of unity, despite feelings of loneliness and abandonment. However, the title of the song is also poignant in the fact that it highlights what Eminem wishes to emphasize: the strength and will to not be afraid. The singer and rapper could have titled his song "Not Alone" or "Take a Stand." Instead, he chooses to call it "Not Afraid." This song seeks to instill bravery and steadfastness in anyone who has ever felt dispirited or beaten down. Eminem lets you know that there is hope and that we are all in this together.

Dirty Dancing, romantic inspiration through dance

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner," says Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing, a movie that has more than its share of unique lines but ultimately triumphs over any cliches by providing the perfect mix of dance, music, attractive co-stars and a love story about true love. For those who take part in Dahn Yoga and are interested in self-development, this movie is an easy feel-good way to get oneself pumped about the endless possibilities to have "The Time of Your Life." Watching Dahn Yoga DVDs can be supplemented by watching inspirational movies.

Jennifer Grey plays a young woman named Frances Houseman, nicknamed "Baby." She is on vacation with her family at a resort where hired professional dancers teach the vacationers how to salsa. Baby meets Johnny Castle, played by a very handsome Patrick Swayze, and not only falls in love with him but also learns what is known as "dirty dancing."

The movie shows the development and growth of Baby, from a sheltered daughter of a doctor, to a young woman who is not afraid to follow her own path. Baby surprises everyone in the end by performing a beautiful dance which inspires all of the vacationers to stand up and dance as well.

The movie tackles more serious issues such as unwanted pregnancy. But mostly, it's a smooth, optimistic look at adolescence and adulthood, mixed with inspirational music and lots of romance.

Aladdin is an inspiration to young boys and girls alike

Aladdin and his monkey friend Abu get into all sorts of trouble in this fun and inspirational film about a poor boy who gets the princess because he is righteous, brave and good. Dahn yoga exercises can be practiced between watching inspirational Disney movies, and Dahn yoga lovers as well as their children will surely enjoy this classic movie which brings to life everything from a magic carpet to a genie in a bottle – in this case, voiced by Robin Williams.

Aladdin and Abu begin the film accustomed to their outlaw status. They are poor and do not have food, so they steal from the market and run from the guards. One day, Aladdin sees a beautiful girl in the market. She has a hood on and she is in trouble for "stealing" an apple. The girl is about to have her hand cut off when Aladdin rushes in and uses his wits to get her out of trouble. Little does he know that this girl is the princess of the land, Jasmine.

Aladdin's story takes place in the fictional land of Agrabah. He must bring in the help of the magical genie, the flying carpet as well as his friends Abu and Jasmine in order to defeat the evil Jafar, the Grand Vizier to the Sultan, who wants all of the power for himself. This is a story of bravery, love and righteousness that is sure to inspire both boys and girls alike.
