When you start a new diet plan for weight loss, it's easy to keep up with your nutritional guidelines for the first few days. However, once you're a week or more into your diet, continuing to ignore your hunger pangs can be a little trickier. Here are a few dietary tips to keep in mind when working toward your weight loss goals.
Count your calories
Keeping track of everything you've eaten in a given day is important when dieting, but doing this in your head can leave plenty of room for error. You might want to think about enlisting the help of a calorie counting program so you know how much progress you've made since breakfast.
Don't buy snack foods
When there's a box of cookies staring at your from your kitchen pantry, it can be difficult to resist sneaking a few extra snacks. How can you avoid this temptation? Don't buy junk food in the first place. Instead, opt for healthier foods like nuts, fruits and hummus to satisfy your cravings.
Allow for the occasional indulgence
Unless you have incredible will power – and if you did, you wouldn't be in this situation – going cold turkey on snacking is bound to fail. Because of this, you should build indulgences into your diet plan so that they don't ruin your efforts. For instance, if you manage to stick to your diet for five days in a row, feel free to reward yourself with a slice of cake for dessert on Saturday night. Just don't go overboard.
