Yoga can be a useful method of coping with depression and anxiety
Coping with depression and anxiety often relies on a combination of having a supportive network of friends, seeking prompt medical treatment and engaging in a holistic regimen that promotes inner peace. A program like yoga, which is included in the weight loss plans of countless Americans, can help those with emotional disorders stay calm, grounded and centered.
This may be one reason why so many companies across the U.S. are offering yoga classes to employees, since the gentle Eastern regimen can promote mental well-being as well as increased productivity. Yoga is also cropping up at many universities, where students are often in need of a little rest and relaxation.
The Aurora Sentinel reports that people attending medical school are increasingly relying on the tranquil breathing exercises, soothing poses and refreshing stretches to help them better manage their responsibilities. One campus, for example, is offering yoga classes at lunchtime to improve students' well-being.
"I think it's a great indicator that there is a lot of interest to stay healthy and use physical activity to stay healthy," said Jim Ellis, who directs the school's health and wellness center, quoted by the news source.
Taking a few moments out of one's day to practice the rejuvenating maneuvers of yoga can help many people achieve inner peace.
