Woman opens studio to help others engage in yoga for weight loss or stress reduction
Millions of people all over the world engage in yoga for weight loss, as well as to alleviate depression and anxiety symptoms. The holistic mind-body regimen is known for its calming and rejuvenating qualities, and has helped countless enthusiasts cope with the tension and anxiety of daily life.
Take 54-year-old Heidi Farber, for example. A lifelong yoga devotee, she managed not to panic when she was informed that her position as a special education teacher would go from full-time to part-time. Instead, she looked at this change in a positive light.
"I have a passion for yoga," Farber told Shore News Today. "When I found out in the spring that my full-time teaching position was going to be cut, I said, 'Well, this is an opportunity for me to start something that I really love.'"
With the new time available on her hands, she has started a yoga studio in her hometown to help introduce the gentle mind-body regimen to others.
"It increases flexibility and strength, and it's good for calming the nervous system and the mind," Farber added, quoted by the news source.
She opens her studio every Monday at 9:00 A.M., offering two free morning classes to help beginners get the hang of the program's gentle poses, relaxing stretches and calming breathing exercises.
By offering these classes to her friends and neighbors, Farber hopes to help strengthen her community, creating a place where people feel comfortable, happy and connected to others.
The passionate yoga instructor added that she is interested in offering classes to young people, particularly those who have special needs, since she is a special education teacher. She is also hoping to introduce the program to elderly enthusiasts as a relaxing alternative to more rigorous exercises.
